Monthly Handicap - O'Conner Ridge

Today:
Race plus warm up: Distance - 9.25 km
Race: Distance: 8.0 km
Time: 36' 53"
Rate: 4' 37" per km
Group start: 37 Finished: 38th / 75
Weather: cloudy, showers just finished by race start, temp 15 degrees, humidity 87%, wind northerly 15 kmph
Week: 9.25 km, Year: 3791.65 km
October: 247.8 km in 15/31 days at ave 16.5 km per run day

Rain overnight and early morning reduced the numbers today combined with a local triathlon & the Fitz's Challenge for cyclists.
However, the showers cleared by race time and we had a dry run on a nice soft fire trail surface around the O'Conner & Bruce ridges. This race has the highest course difficulty factor of our events over the year.
Started out Ok but the others in my group soon ran off into the distance, couldn't keep up the pace. That's more a sign of lasting fatigue from two weeks ago and a lack of running since. Felt Ok, it took me long time to catch CJ, finally caught Ewen, but Strewth had long gone. A big improvement for her to finish 6th over the line and 4th eligible.
I have pencilled in the Lightning Strike 30 km run during the Stromlo Running Festival on 20th Feb next year. Another case of running a different event, this time locally over tracks I will know, or at least be reasonable familiar with from our Cotter running.

  • You caught me fair and square. CJ was jogging to the music and Strewth was robbed by a burglar or two. Group 23 was perfect - thanks. Strewth needs to go back to 25 ;)
