Tan 100 km

Sunday:
Distance: 100 km
Time: 11 hrs 38 mins 23 secs
Rate: 6' 59" per km
Weather: all seasons in one day, we were in Melbourne, temp 10-15 degrees, heavy rain to bright sunshine, calm to windy

Hoped to get finished in under the cutoff of 12 hours and made it. Felt Ok all day with only hip flexor problems after 9 hours when I needed some help from Liz's crew to get through to the finish. That slowed me down especially on the down hill.
Walked well up Anderson St to make up for it. Enjoyed the day immensely. It is good to see the leaders going past so fast and so often which you don't see on most other events. Congratulations to everyone that competed.
Brilliant effor by Barry the male winner in the 100 kms and especially great running by Liz be the leading female in a great time at this distance. Better results in store, go for it.
Writing this in Tassie on a week long family visit. Trip across Bass Strait very rough, good I am still a bit tired. Hip flexor problem has gone and now feel Ok. Will run again on Thursday after getting some visiting out of the way. Cold water in Bass Strait will fix any other problems.
Nana naps the real deal in the afternoons this week.

  • Well done Steve! Really sorry we couldn't stay to see you finish but our passenger needed to get home ASAP. I know Ruth felt bad about not being able to run a few laps with you those last 15k.

Enjoyed the 'crewing' experience, even if the RD didn't let us put up the tent - which would have come in handy for those 4 seasons, and kept your massive supply of food dry ;)

  • It was great to be running in the same ultra as you Steve. Am glad you had a good time of it.

I am soooooooooo envious of your recovery time in Tas. Recovery at "work as usual" is a lot less fun.

Time for us both to be thinking about "what next?" ....

  • Congratulations Steve.

Melbourne is my second home. Went to technical college there, and spent time at the Tigers home ground in Punt Road.

Pains me to tune into tigers games now, when they are not going well.

  • Congratulations Steve. You were always smiling - check out FB for some great piccies. So sorry we couldn't stay to see you finish but it was great to see you out there and watch you consume so many carbs - very impressive stuff! Great to have Jenny for company and that handy table where we could keep the bags relatively dry. Fantastic experience and the day flew by (for us anyway)!
