Another long Saturday outing with Softshoe, all part of the SMB plan to get to the start line at CP 100 km.
We started at the top end of Hindmarsh Dr and ran three laps around Cooleman Ridge and Mt Arawang. Met John K part way round the first lap and he stayed with us ( or we tried to stay with him) for the 3 loops we did. Each lap was about 11.5 kms, a long way to have to carry enough drinks. The humidity was very high from the start, we really felt it out in the open as there was no shade at all. Certainly not many others about, unlike the trail around Mt Taylor or beside the lake in the city.
We finished 3 laps with about 35 kms done, looking then to find a couple of shorter trails to follow so headed in Duffy forest area. Not that many years ago we ran many vet's monthly handicaps here, but that would not be possible any more. The bush fires and then lack of maintenance have wrecked the area, and recent rains have washed away many parts of the tracks.
A couple of laps in there to make 45 kms for the day including going up to the trig. Good views up there over the Woden area and west towards the mountains.
We counted up our fluid intake for the day, around 6-7 litres in total and could have drank more.
Back home, quick shower and a nana nap for a couple of hours, then off to work. At least that is easy on a Saturday night.
Feel good today, legs Ok, will try a short run later down to the river after a bit of back yard tidy up.
